The Meridian offers free transportation for errands and outings, and has plenty of parking for residents, too. The Meridian at Kessler senior apartment complex is located just west of the Bishop Arts District. From Mardi Gras to Bastille Day to Christmas, the area plays host to street festivals and bazaars throughout the year. Southwest of downtown in the Oak Cliff area, the Bishop Arts District bills itself as “Dallas’ Most Independent Neighborhood.” The district is home to dozens of independently owned shops, eateries, clubs, and galleries to give visitors and residents an authentic Big D experience. Just north of the Oak Lawn neighborhood, Meadowstone Place offers easy, pet-friendly independent living, with fine dining, housekeeping services, and transportation so residents can get out without the hassle of driving and parking.
Along with the legendary J.R.’s and Sue Ellen’s, the Cedar Springs nightlife scene offers something for everyone, like the western-themed Round-up Saloon, Cuban-style dinner and dancing at Havana Lounge, Woody’s Sports Bar, and Alexandre’s cabaret and karaoke lounge. The upscale Oak Lawn area of Dallas is the city’s original “gayborhood.” LGBT clubs line Cedar Springs Road, along with restaurants and boutiques. With the country’s 6th-largest LGBT population, the Big D offers two gay-friendly neighborhoods, a thriving GLBT Chamber of Commerce, plenty of places to meet friends and make friends, and one of the nation’s biggest LBGT community centers. Dallas is all about big hair, big parties, and a big LGBT community.
